Two Hour Workshop

 
 

First Hour
10:Minutes
Meet and greet: Each participant will be given a pretest to help discover what they know about the ADA laws pertaining to the disabled and their service animals. After taking the pretest each participant will be given a booklet of commonly asked questions about service animals from the ADA Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and the National Association of Attorneys General.
5:Minutes
Movie and questions: The life of a service animal and its disabled partner. This is a short movie of how life is from the view of the disabled person with a service animal.
15:Minutes
Antagonist -VS- Protagonist with service Animals: In the next 15 minutes we will break up into two groups, antagonist and protagonist. One group becomes the disabled individual with service animals and they experience what it is like entering an establishment. The other group becomes the Antagonist and has a list of duties and questions to ask the first group.

Defusing the Antagonist:
In this 15 minutes we discuss as a group what the exercise was like for both the antagonist and the protagonist.

Second Hour
5:Minutes
Movie and questions: Movie #2 - What can a service animal do? This is a short movie of how life looks like from the view of the disabled with a service animal under very favorable conditions for both your establishment as well as the customer.
30:Minutes
The Laws of the United States: Ms. Songer will begin to guide the group through the laws of the United States that were developed by the Supreme Court. She will Dissect and look at the booklets and discuss what worked and what didn't for the participants when they took the position of the antagonists.
15:Minutes
Switching Rolls - The antagonist now become the protagonist. In the 15 minutes the participants become disabled individuals with service animals and they experience what entering your establishment is like under the ADA laws.

Questions and answers: What can you do to help make this a better situation for all.
